Over the past few days I have made some changes to how members will navigate through KI. The main reason these changes have been made is because we want to keep adding more buttons to the main navigation menu located under the banner up top. The problem with doing that is it can easily become over-crowed up there resulting in an unprofessional look. To solve this problem I have made two major changes to the navigation layout. Also before I forget I would like to thank
KImember for helping create some pictures for the new navigation features but mainly for overseeing that everything was turning out right.
Feature #1: New Side Navigation MenuThe first feature was just added today, December 6th. This new side navigation menu is located to the left of the left widget bar. It includes links to some of the major areas and threads on KI. Eventually the Side Navigation Menu will replace the Navigation Widget that is currently located in the Left Widget Bar.
Feature #2: New Footer Navigation BarThis feature is a little more complex than the side navigation menu. It is located at the very bottom of every page on KI and the good news is you never have to go looking for it because it is 'attached' to your browser window. It contains links to major areas on KI including the Front Page, Main Forum Index, List of Staff, Calendar, and Gallery. It also contains a link to our host site forumotion.com and also to phpbb who provides the programming that keeps all forumotion sites running. Finally it includes links to the contact form, donation page, and abuse filling form. And as a little extra bonus we have even included a link to the Webkinz Login Page on the far right. When you click on that icon a new window will pop up and the webkinz login page will load.
Hopefully these new additions will help you navigate KI easier. Also both of these features use coding that could possibly be read differently by different browsers. If you are experiencing something wacky with one of these features let me know. Both of these features were designed on Firefox but have also been tested on Internet Explorer to ensure they work.
Also while I am talking about Internet Explorer display please note I am aware that the news articles are not displaying properly on Internet Explorer. I am trying to work out a fix for that browser. It is proving more difficult than I expected as Internet Explorer does not follow the same rules as most other modern browsers.
So in conclusion I hope you enjoy these new features and please PM me if you are experiencing difficulties with either of these features.
